Why do you pray?

Every Step...

I'll tell you why I do...

Prayers. People pray in different ways, for many different reasons. And to different deities. I like some of the traditions I've seen and heard about from different religions.

However, I am an All American girl. I am a Christian, but maybe - an Independent Christian? Maybe it's what some people just call Spiritual. I believe in God, and Jesus. But not every word of the Bible. I think my God is Great. And I believe that I have always had a special relationship with Him since before I was born.

I didn't grow up going to a specific church, and we didn't go very often. Some people feel the need to do that and some people don't. I believe God is Everywhere, and I talk to him - or pray, all the time.

This morning, I laid in bed and prayed for an hour. I didn't realize it was an hour, until I stopped. But I was really happy. What a joy to spend a private hour with God. I tell him how grateful I am for so many wonderful things, especially my family and loved ones. For colors, for sight and hearing, for music and water. I love this world and I am truly grateful to be here. They say churches are the house of God. I think the world is. Have you ever been in a beautiful forest, on a beautiful beach or watching your child's baseball game and felt the presence of God? I have.

I ask him for guidance and to be smart enough to follow it. I pray for safety, good health and happiness - for everyone. I pray for the souls of deceased people and for their loved ones left behind. I pray for our Soldiers, even though I don't want us in this war. I pray for innocent people on both sides.

Even though the God I believe in is Loving and understands our humanness, I don't want to just pray for help when things go wrong. Although I do pray for help. I Thank God for letting me Love Him and for Loving me. And this is the way I have felt for as long as I remember. In good times and in bad. As humans, I feel that we have to take responsibility and accept that things happen. I believe that certain things are destined and I also believe that sometimes we are given choices.

I know there are horrible things in this world, and terrible places. It makes me sad, awfully sad. I also believe in Karma and Reincarnation. Do I get kicked out of the Christian club for that? I don't really know. But I do know that when I roll all of that together, things make more sense to me.

My Mother says, "Every step we take along the way, leads us to where we are today." She is a Wise Woman - my Mother.

I live my life by the Golden Rule, and that works for me. I don't know why I felt compelled to share this today. I know it's not proper to talk about Religion if you are a public figure, and as an author I have been put in that category. But I'm okay with everyone having their own beliefs, I accept that people are different. I know I'm Quirky, and I like that about myself. Thank God!

Really great hub, it doesn't matter what you call it, but recognizing there is something more grander than thou, and giving thanks everyday is good for the sole. I agree totally that this practice makes you a happier person with a more positive outlook. You tend to take notice of the little things that count! Thanks for sharing, Voted Up and Beautiful!

Everyone needs a little hope now and then. Knowing you're creator loves you and is your advocate can over-come the harshest obstacle. Great work. - Harlan
