What Guys Want

Our 3 sons

Me and my men.
Me and my men.

Just my opinion, of course

Being happily married for 24 years and the mother of three sons, ranging in age from 16, 21 and 30, I hear a lot of talk and opinions from them and from their friends. I notice which girls they date and which ones stick around longer than others.

I married the first time when I was just 18, it lasted for five long years, and so when I was single it was one of the best times of my life. I dated some truly wonderful men that I still have fond memories of. We had good foundations in friendship, that would have lasted a lifetime, if our current spouses hadn't objected so strongly. lol

  • The main thing I've seen and heard men say, is that the one thing they do NOT want, is a needy, clingy woman. They say they don't want a woman that demands too much of their time.
  • They want a woman that has a life and career or hobbies of her own, in other words, an independent woman. They say if she has things that keep her busy, then they will still have time for guy things, without her whining. You know, guy things. Like playing video games, watching sports, farting loudly and getting to laugh about it instead of apologizing.
  • I have found out that perfect looks in a woman come in second to self-confidence. They really want a self confident woman. For one thing, they feel better about themselves if they are chosen by a woman that thinks highly of herself. They like a woman that won't (because she doesn't need to) take their crap.
  • Another thing I've noticed is that the more they find a female like the ones I've described above, the more time they find they want and need to spend with her.
  • Most men say they want a woman with a good basic understanding and appreciation of sports.
  • And they want to be able to have an intelligent conversation, without answering questions about if a person's butt looks too big, or if he thinks another girl is hot. (Of course he does)

It really all comes back to "The Hunt." Biologically, men are built to want to be the ones to do the chasing. The harder something is to catch, the more time they have to spend chasing it, the sweeter the meat - the catch.

They want a woman that sets herself a little above the rest. Like for instance their prized truck or car. Buying used is okay, but not worn out. I KNOW that sounds terrible. But I'm just passing along what I hear - when they don't know I'm listening. I wish more men would eaves-drop. Maybe then they would understand more of what WE want. lol

Stay tuned for the next HUB: WHAT WOMEN WANT!

KT

That's good stuff! And everything you said is true. I can't argue with you there.

Hi daskittlez69,

I could have made it a much longer hub, but I really think that is the main basics. Of course men want a LOT more than that. But if I can just get this one point across, I hope it helps. I've had so many friends that agonize over the fact that some guy isn't calling her back or something. They call me so much that it drives ME crazy. I can imagine how the poor guys feel. LOL

I've always had more guy friends than girl friends. I don't know why. And then I have all these sons on top of it. :)

I would include self-respect with self-confidence (the two go hand in hand to a certain degree). I can't stand a girl who gets sloppy drunk at every occasion and comes onto every guy who might buy her a drink. I want a girl who has a sense of self-worth.

And the number one most frustrating thing is a ditzy girl. I hate having a conversation come to a screeching halt because that mental leap is not being made (and my efforts to explain it drain all my enthusiasm for the subject). I need somebody who is intellectually curious and can keep up in a conversation without deviating (as you say) into "does this make my butt look big" territory every 5 minutes.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@Anarchos - you sound like my middle son. All my sons are pretty picky though, Thank God!
