So, When Do You Think?

Technology Overload
Everywhere you go, you see people on their cell phones, or Ipads or other little technological gadgets. I went to lunch with an old friend that I don't get to see much anymore. She spent the whole time on her phone, either texting or actually talking. You see it on TV shows and even sit-coms all the time. It annoys everyone. So why does almost everyone do it?
It's everywhere you go, from the doctor's office, dentist, car wash, every kind of waiting room, restaurants and...public restrooms! (O-M-G!) I hear people in the next stall - talking on their phones. :O
Parents and kids don't talk in the car or on trips anymore, there are too many video games, phones, and DVR's. Kids often don't even talk to each other anymore - they would rather text. And I hate to say it, but, in the interest of managing my time, I would usually rather email someone than have a phone conversation. It saves time.
But - and I'l just say it... it's a BIG BUT; When do people get time to think any more? Remember having your own thoughts? I like to "people watch" - I guess because I'm a writer. And it has been bothering me for a while. I love being on my computer, my phones and all the other stuff. But I admit, sometime I purposely leave my cell phone at home, just to have a couple of hours to myself. Oh my God, I even feel guilty admitting that.
I'm so thankful that I'm not in the corporate world anymore. How do people ever get away from the boss, or the office? I treasure my time to myself, I like to think things over. I like to day dream. I have a t-shirt that says, "You may think I'm day dreaming, but I'm actually hard at work on my next novel." That is so true.
Plus, some times, I like to just sit there and remember special times - I've had some great ones! Haven't you?
So, I guess I've made my point. This isn't going to be a long hub, but I hope it makes you think. And I really would like some comments. Look around you. When do you think most people think now days? When do you do your thinking?

I do my best thinking when I have music blasting and the neighbor giving out about the noise
KT,
Cell phones are good for one thing. Calling other people. Unfortunatly, they can call you back. Cell phones are convienience, and can be a life saver, But I don't like how they've changed our culture. I could go on for days talking about this, but I'll shut up for now. (laughing) Up, useful, and awesome!

I was thinking about that. Some people do crazy stuff to get followers. I don't. I've noticed that some people will follow 900 people. 3 or 4 hundreded might follow back. Some people build followers through face book and stuff. I don't do anything but write. I probably follow 15 people. I just write, but we've got to get you out there. Your good, and followers give you more confidence. I would not be here if it weren't for some loyal folks. We'll get you some followers. Mean while, remember I said you're good. I wouldn't lie. I just wouldn't say anything. Great days ahead!

I,too, enjoy people watching and I have also noticed a large number of people out there who are apparently addicted to their cellphones and/or other electronic gadgets. I wonder about them. Are they SO important that they must be reached 24/7 as they drive, shop, eat, get their hair done, and even use the restroom? I truly doubt it. Is whoever they are listening to or talking to more important than the people they are actually with? That's what I would think if I were the friend watching them continue to use the phone while I waited for them. Is yakking on the phone more important than experiencing life around them? It would appear to be.
I do have a cellphone and I do use it occasionally, but I am NOT one of those people you will see talking on it in a restaurant or driving down the road. I personally often wish cellphones had never been invented. Often I feel they are more of an electronic leash than anything else. There are times, as you mentioned, that I just want to be alone with my thoughts. I don't want to be disturbed, or "found" or asked to do something. If I don't answer my cell the caller assumes "something" is wrong or "something" has happened to me. This makes me feel guilty for leaving it behind or turning it off. It shouldn't, but it does.
I do most of my thinking in a bubble bath when I am relaxing or at my job when I am doing a totally mindless task that a monkey could do (which, sadly, is quite frequently).
I noticed your comment about followers. I have been astounded at the number of followers some people have acquired and also wondered how they did so. I only know how I decide to follow someone and I only follow people who write things that I enjoy reading. I don't follow a large number of people, but I nearly always enjoy the ones that I do. If there is a trick to getting people to discover one's work in the first place I have yet to discover it.
Good Luck!

I do my best thinking in the shower or bath. Something about the warm relaxing water gets me thinking and in touch with the things on my mind.
