In Loving Memory
As a writer, I know how important it is to sometimes put your feelings into words. It helps to be able to express yourself. I have had a Best Friend, Lisa, since the fifth grade. We live in different states now, however we still stay in touch as much as possible.
Last week, her Mother died. Both of us have parents that are getting up there in age. I have to tell you, it is scary. I lost my dad when I was just 13. But I still cry for him sometimes. I wonder what he would think of me as a grown up. What he would think of my husband and kids. I wish they had the chance to know him, not just stories and pictures of him.
When Lisa came to visit me last year, we talked about our parents and the fact that we knew we had to start to try to prepare ourselves for their passing. She told me last week that she found out that you really can't. Even though you've thought of it and tried to imagine how you will take it, you just never feel really prepared. Even though just last year we had promised each other that we would be there for each other, when the time came, I couldn't go. It made me physically sick for almost a week that I couldn't be there for her.
Her Mothers funeral was at 12:00 noon, the Monday after Easter, in the town we both had grown up in. I was in torment trying to figure out how to spend Easter with my family and kids and still make it to the funeral in time. I just couldn't do it. Lisa was very understanding. She was so stressed out and overwhelmed I think she just didn't need another person to worry about. But I will always feel guilty about it.
I kept thinking there had to be something I could do. So I thought of making a website, non-profit, where people could go to express their condolences, say good by, share memories or whatever. Even post pictures and tributes to their loved ones.
When my teenage son had a friend that died, it seemed that all of the other kids felt a need to express themselves and honor their friend. So, I made the website. It's brand new, and for now simply called RIP-posts.webs.com
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to make it better, please let me know. I'm just trying to make a place for people to get even just a little bit of closure.
I would love to know your opinions of it.
