Reality "Competition" Shows
62Are any of them Real?
What do they say about us?
I don't watch a lot of different Reality shows. I do watch a few, like American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and for some reason, Big Brother. It could have something to do with what is on the other channels at the time, I'm not sure.
However, I don't vote on the talent shows because I think they are all fixed, maybe not from the beginning, but near the end. I could not believe they voted James Durbin off of American Idol the other night. In the history of the show, I don't think I've ever seen anyone put his whole heart, soul and body into their performance like he does.
Tonight, I watched the season finale of Survivor. Without watching the whole season it was still pretty easy to see what was going on. So after watching it, along with the endings of some other Reality shows and Big Brother, I can't help but to make comparisons. And it makes me sad.
What does it say about us, as American's, as people, that the biggest winners are usually the most deceiving liars of the bunch? They manipulate other people, gain their trust and then stab them in the back. And get others to follow along like puppets applauding them all the way. Then near the end, they chose to take someone really openly despicable and someone really weak with them to ensure that the juries will feel they have no choice but to give them the big reward in the end. It's GROSS, for lack of a better word.
I was hoping to see it turned around tonight. After everything these people had to go through, and it looks like starvation is a huge part of it, I really thought these people might turn that around. Some of them spoke of getting closer to God and doing some soul searching. So why did they reward the bad guy? I would rather have seen the most openly despicable guy win it. Although since I didn't see the rest of the season, I so wonder what he did that people thought he was so awful. Tonight all I saw that he did was wear some pretty horrible underwear and try to take up for himself.
Or, I would rather have seen the naive 19 year old girl win. She did turn against her best friend at the end, but compared with what the other guy did to so many people, I still think I would rather have given it to her.
I just want to see one game where people will stand up and not give the biggest manipulating liar the biggest reward. I would love to see them turn it around on them. It's like seeing the meanest bully always win. I don't get it.
I would REALLY love to hear your comments about this phenomenon.

I only watch Britian's Got Talent. I try not to watch reality shows because most of them just annoy me.
I do believe that there are a few contestants signalled out to win the show. Like yourself I have never voted in any of them, as it isn't worth adding to my phone bill.
