First let me say that I don't sell Ragdoll Kittens. This hub is in no way an advertisement. I just wanted to share with you the knowledge I have about these extraordinary cats.
For those of you who don't know what a Ragdoll Cat is, be prepared to fall in love. We love animals. My husband is especially great with them. He has never met an animal that he didn't love and and the feelings are mutual. Sometimes to the point that I have to smother jealously. I can be in the middle of playing with or cuddling an animal, Kenny walks into the room and all of a sudden everyone else is invisible. They have to have Kenny's attention.
Even so, out of all the animals I've ever met, Ragdolls are the most unique of them all. The first thing people usually notice is their remarkable beauty. They having piercingly blue eyes, and - no kidding, they are as soft a bunny rabbits. They are large cats when full grown. A lot of them have a mask over their eyes. A good Ragdoll breeders site can tell you all about their different color patterns, such as bi-color, pointed, mitted, highly mitted and so on.
Some people call them Designer Cats, which I always found funny. But they actually are. They say the in 1960 a woman in California, named Anne Baker really love certain personality traits in different kinds of cats. So she bred certain ones until she came up with some that had all the best Characteristics of them all. I think she called them rag-a-muffins, later on it was changed to Ragdolls because they have a unique trait that when you pick them up, they go totally limp in your arms. My cat Bella used to run and throw herself in front of me, so that no matter how busy I was I would have to laugh and take a break to play with her.
They really are not like most cats. They are very affectionate. If you call their name, they come running, like a dog does. Some people teasingly call them puppies dressed in cat suits. They love and adore their people. They love to cuddle, sleep with you and follow you everywhere you go. Some even play fetch or catch...I've seen it with my own eyes. It's so funny and so adorable. My mother used to roll up little wrappers and toss one to the ground. Her cat Jeannie would leap out of her lap and play soccer with it for a while, and then bring it back to Mom so she would throw it again.
My cat Rocky liked to hang out on the landing of the stairs when the sun was in a certain spot. Our love seat was sitting directly underneath that spot. One day my son threw his baseball cap up and Rocky reached his paw between the spindles and snatched it. He was lightning fast. Then he would let it go and my son would catch it, and they would just play like that for some time.
When our Queen had a litter, after they were a few weeks old and their beautiful blue eyes were opened, we would put the 6 or 7 kittens on our bed between us and play and play with them. They were like tiny fluffy bits of heaven. We loved them SO much.
In my eyes, there is not a more perfect pet. However, I started developing bronchitis, a lot. I would go to the doctor and take medicine and get rid of it, and then before long I would get it again. I was always allergic to cats when I was little, but I thought I had outgrown it.
One day I was on the phone with one of my sisters long distance. I laughed about something, and she said, "My God, you sound like a smoker." What? I was shocked. Kenny started to worry about my health, and so we made the horrifying decision to find new homes for all of our babies. We were devastated, however one of our sons is allergic to cats too.
I've included a slideshow for you, so you can see just how precious they are. Most Ragdolls are born white and develop their color as they grow up. Except for what they call mink ragdolls. They are usually born a pale brown, and they still have those remarkable eyes.
I apologize if I accidentally got anything wrong about their history, but as I said, most of the best Breeders have all the information you could want. Pleas never buy from a pet store, or a pet mill. Make sure you get a healthy cat with a health guarantee. And if you are lucky enough to have one someday...please give it a kiss for me.
Pets do have feelings, just like people do. They can get their feelings hurt. They can miss someone. They can feel pain. Make sure that before you get any type of pet, that you do your research on them. And love them with all of your heart. I think it is impossible not to.
Peace and Love to all, KT

I couldn't agree more with the things you have stated! I can tell when my cats' feelings are hurt. I hate when that happens! I have two Ragdoll babies right now and love Ragdolls so much that I have a website devoted to them - http://www.floppycats.com - I'm not a breeder though!
