Perry for President - OMG!
655th generation Texan
My family has a long history in Texas and in Politics. So when I heard the news today that Governor Rick Perry was going to run for President - I was appalled! O-M-G! I've been afraid this was going to happen. He is nice looking and knows how to charm - when he wants to.
I didn't think it was too charming of him, when we saw on video that when his limo got pulled over for speeding, he jumped out of the back seat and pompously asked the policeman, "Do You know Who I AM!" ...Oh. excuse me. I didn't realize that Politicians didn't have to obey the laws.
Did you know that not too long ago, Perry was actually talking about seceding from the Union? It seems unbelievable, but it's true. Does that sound like someone you want to be the President of our United States.
Shamefully, Texas comes in 46th in SAT scores, and 49th in teacher pay. And now our Teacher/Student ratios are reportedly going to be the worst ever in this coming year.
We've had over 600 teachers lose their jobs in the last 6 months - so far. We have a billion dollars in our Rainy Day Fund. But apparently Teachers don't rank as important enough. One local city now has to charge their residents several hundred dollars a year if their kids need to ride the bus.
Houston and Dallas rank 5th and 7th in worst air quality in the Country. All 3 of my children have had battles with asthma - all having been born and raised in my home state of Texas.
We rate 44th in Crime - only 6 states have worse crime
Texas has the lowest high school graduation rate (78.3 percent) in the country.
In 2007, Perry moved out of the governor's mansion into an opulent rental home in fancy gated community in the hills overlooking Austin. It was meant to be a temporary move, but as luck would have it, in 2008, the governor's mansion was mostly destroyed in a fire that was later found to be arson. Since then, taxpayers have shelled out more than $600,000 in rent and other costs for Perry's housing. Among other things, the state paid for $1,000 in "window coverings" from Neiman Marcus, $1,000 for repair to the home's filterized ice machine and at least $8,400 to maintain the governor's heated swimming pool. The revelations came at the height of a state budget crisis, but have since been floated around again by many of Perry's rivals, who cite the spending as a sign he's not a true fiscal conservative.
Just a few years ago, Perry enacted a law in our state, that required (aka Forced) young girls to be injected with a controversial shot for a sexually transmitted disease known a HPV. Little girls as young as 11 years old. The shot was required before they could even enter the sixth grade. He actually bypassed the Texas Legislature from the process. This mandate usurps the rights of the parents to make medical decisions for their children, but if there are any adverse reactions to this new vaccine, the parents and their little girls have to live with it and deal with it. Perry did say that parents could opt out of it, but it was such a big deal that private and parochial schools could still deny admittance to their schools. And the forms required to opt out could take several weeks to come in the mail, meanwhile the child would miss all that important time in school. The State of Texas doesn't get paid for each day that a child misses school and they are very strict about allowing that child to pass to the next grade - regardless of their grades. Does that make any sense?
Now there has been another law passed that FORCES women that need to have an abortion to not only have an Ultra-sound, but actually FORCES her to Watch it, as the Doctor describes a baby in detail. There is no law requiring the Father to go through this.
Personally, I don't know if I could ever have an abortion of not. Fortunately I have never been put in that horrible situation to have to decide. But I think the whole thing would be traumatizing enough without adding to it. What a nightmare. But the point is, Rick Perry seems to have no qualms when it comes to forcing women and little girls to do things against their will.
I wrote this article a few days ago, and I've been giving it some thought as to whether or not I should post it. But it's not anything that is not common knowledge. The information is out there for anyone to research if they want to. I just think more American's should know.
Update. This hub has generated a lot of controversy, Perry supporters do not want the truth to come out. So Hub pages made me re-write it, leaving out a lot of the statistics that I did a lot of research to get, in my fact finding mission. Just because I found the statistics somewhere else on the net, means that I wanted to make sure I was giving you the MOST Accurate results. But apparently, it was used as an excuse to un-publish the entire thing. All that accomplished is to make me even more mad, and come back with harsher facts. Again all TRUE Facts!
All I'm asking of you, is to look deeper into the candidates past. Not just the stats that the party feels they can brag about. Don't vote on a person because he seems charming, or because they represent a specific party. Ask yourself some real questions. One being, would you want the women and little girls in YOUR family treated like this?
If a person has an overblown sense of entitlement as Governor, How overbearing will he be as our President?

KT

He sounds like Bush with even more swagger. That coupled with an evangelical fervor on steroids, it's needless to say, I'm very scared!
I have a friend in Fort Worth who swears on good authority that Perry has a secret boyfriend in Austin. Have you heard those kind of rumors?

KT.
How ya doin super star? Hey, I have to jump in on this. I haven't been specific. but I've been telling my followers that with Perry there will be Perry problems with Perry in the White House. (That's a lot of Perrys) In most cases the person who can do the best job, doesn't make the last cut. They are out financed in most cases. Herman Cain would probably make a very good president. The best one in a long time, but Herman Cain will be lucky to place third in a race to the nomination. No one in the field has an edge over Obama, even with, what most consider, to be a failed administration. If voters on the right want Obama out, Perry's the man. He's a bonofied Obama beater. Having said that. Your piece does a beautiful job of making folks aware that this "hired gun" comes with a lot of bagage. I'm a guy who is very much against this administration, but my problems go much deeper than the crap everyone else is coming up with, and has very little to do with liberals.
Love your work girl!
jim
Perry is going to make things interesting for sure.
Thanks for writing this hub. I'm also a Texas native, born in Dallas though I live in Virginia. I follow politics a lot and think Perry has a good chance of winning the nomination.
Which makes me nervous...we just had a Texas governor in the White House, and I'm not eager to go bac there again
and Im your 100th follower!
Great Hub KT. Perry is an empty suit. He would be a disaster for this country. Besides, from what I've heard, the Texas Governorship is one of the weakest in the 50 states. So his administrative experience is minimal. I also read that most of the new jobs in Texas are minimum wage service jobs. It sounds to me that Perry is all hype.
HSchneider,
I'm a Texan, and to tell you the truth, if you research it, you'll find that Texas is doing quite well in comparison to the rest of the country, and condidered the model that the other states should follow. I'm not a Perry fan, but I will vote for him because he's the only one who's got what it takes to beat Obama. Sir, he's no Abe Lincolin, but he's anything but an empty suit. I say all this with the upmost respect for your opinion. I'm all about good manners and diversity of opinion.
jim
Perry never talked about seceding from the union in the sense you portray it. That is simply a falshood,
KT why don't you level with all these nice folks and tell them the truth about why so many don't have high school diplomas?............its because we house more illegals than anyone in the country!
This applies to teenage births also!
Explain to them how one can come to texas and not work for a union but still make 6 figures a year? Explain to them how one can purchase wonderful homes with swimming pools for less than 200 grand! (less regulation, permits, and union labor cost) Ask them if they know officials are now coming from all the liberal states to visit our government to find out what they can do to make their state as profitable as Texas? ..........Oh and remind them we recieved millions from Katrina that NEVER went home!
KT you must live in Austin because no other city in Texas would allow someone with zero pride to live with them in this great and wonderful state!
.........PS for all those who don't know we house all our liberals in Austin Texas, yes it is the capital but its also home to aids, streets full of gay bars, drug addicts, and thousands of left over hippies from the sixties that never grew up and still hit the bong before breakfast!
KT why are you so unhappy? the quality of the air? really!! You must not remember the air from the 70s! Air today is clean enough to run through grandmas oxygen bottle! Why do you do this? I'm serious? You write this baseless stuff against conservatives and I don't know why? How does a person hate good but love evil? How does the mind take evil and embrace it as something good? Bush and Perry pray and to me that is good, are they perfect? NO they are HUMAN! but they both have better morals and qualities than the lieing president living under the roof of the white house! Wanna talk about lies? let me know and I will give you a list!
AR's overt acrimony and bigotry sink his intent to portray Texas as a place of opportunity—unless you're a right-wing reactionary, of course.
I haven't been there since I was a recruit at Lackland, but I recall Texans as much more gracious than this guy.
101 followers! KT, you're rolling girl! Seems like yesterday you had only a few. The cream rises to the top. AR's a good dude. Like me, he's been in some battle grounds where people play rough so .. I dunno. Times are scary and people are testy. I should mind my own business, but we've both been up against some tripple A players who don't play fair, so you have to bring the heavy cannons to keep fromgeting smoked. If you can talk American view into putting down his gun, he has a lot of knowledge. He just didn't realize he didn't need a gun in your crib. Now I'll mozey along and stick my nose in someone elses business. Actually I've got to work on the Iowa show. I've been in front of a lot of 3-400 people audiences, but never anything like what's they're expecting. They're talking 25,000. I don't want to get up there with my mo jo rolling, look out at the audience and wet myself. I don't do speaches, I just go with a theme and an outline in my head, and let it flow naturaly, so I better have that theme and outline engrained. Otherwise Superman might not be so super.
jim
But what about that 101? Aren't you excited? When I hit 100, I thought I was a stud. I guess I'm being silly. I was just really concerned about you getting discouraged in the begining as you remember. I can quit my worrying now. You're on your way.
jim
Good stuff, KT. I think the only thing that frightens me more than Perry is Michele Bachmann. What a nightmare...
Well written, and very informative. Great hub!
Anytime you write anything with so much as a hit of a political opinion, somebody's going to come gunning KT. I've been doing it for a long time, and most of the Hub bullies don't come around my hubs anymore. If someone disrespects me, I'm ruthless. A real bad boy attacked me with insults and a lot worse arly on.. I beat him so bad he finally threatened to commit suicide, so I had to back off. I'm just saying you have to put on some thick skin and make sure you've done your homework when you go political. It seems folks aren't allowed to a simple opinion on the Hub. A.V. wasn't right coming in the way he did, but maybe he just came out of a bad debate. He still didn't have the right to blind side you that way though. He's a bud, but he needs to apologize on this thing..
j
jim
Well NoPants, I beg to differ . . . with all due respect. An opinion is not necessarily based on facts or knowledge; it's often just a conclusion or an attitude based on prejudice and personal preference. Nothing in AR's diatribe was based on sound argumentation with pertinent information. Nor is an informed debate a pi$$sing contest. Just my opinion! ;-)
KT,
That may be stretching but the American Romance that I know isn't like that. I hope he apologizes, not for his opinion, but for but his tone. That was out of line, and he knows it. He's a good man. Now he just needs to show you and do the right thing. Guess we'll see kiddo ..
Oh here we go .. Okay wizz. I thought I knew what an opinion was, but guess not. What my problem with AR is has to do with the unprovoked attack. He's well educated, he knows politics, and he knows history. If you want to show somebody how smart you are, show him. I'm busy hunting bad guys in Washington, and I don't care which political party they're with.
I love a good debate, but I haven't had one in a long time. Just a bunch of people trying to prove how stupid the other guy is. I learned debate from some of the best in the business and I'm good at it. In a good debate everybody learns. That ain't happening here. I don't mean any of this disrespectfully. It's just that I quit playing games a long time ago. Good luck my man.
jim
We gonna get you some good scoring on this hub girl. Just kick back and watch the show. Go to my hub on America Haters. That was a show! I don't do that stuff anymore though. lol Seriously, I don't waste a lot of time arguing with arm chair political quarter backs trying to impress one another here on the hub pages. I'm IN the fight, and when they quit writting to one another and get involved, I'll spend more time with them.
jim
Nah .. I think this things's done for tonight. AR either will or won't make things right and the Whiz? Well he's just the Whiz. lol
jim
Good night kid. I'm watching pre season foot ball, and I'm in heaven!
jim
Wizard,
Please don't ever call me a bigot again! I notice when I come after you freak of nature libs, the only comeback is name calling! Does that ever get old? Don't you wish somewhere down inside your tiny brains you could come up with just one fact to "get" me with?
To HSchneider, Remember our bet about how all the pubs would be kicked out of Wisconsin? ...........PS they still have the majority?.......pay up sucker!
bigotry |?big?tr?|
noun
bigoted attitudes; intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself : the report reveals racism and right-wing bigotry. See note at bias .
Sure AR, you're a beckon of tolerance and fair-minded debate and I'm Sam Huston.
Excellent post. And you got all your facts right!
Although all those attributions to him that you mentioned are certainly qualifying for a republican candidate, it surely would be a disaster with this ass in charge.
Please do not take anything that AR says to heart. He is one of the most opinionated "bigots" i have ever run across and does not deserve your attention in the very least way. He calls you (and me) "a freak of nature lib" and says don't ever call HIM a bigot again. ? What's up with that? What a bigot. Loved your article. Keep up the good work.
Block em. I'm a conservative but I don't endorse that crap. If somebody feels that passionate, do what I did. Dig in your own pocket, get all legal with the state, file your 501 C, set up banking, sign your name, and take your fight to Washington. Don't insult somebody across the isle, then call yourself a patriot. That's c.s. and makes getting things done so freaking hard. I apologize. This is an embarrassment for me, but it fuels this old boy up, and when I finished, the crooks in D.C. are going to be very uncomfortable, and this kind of behavior will be looked down upon. I call it my last mountain, and boy, it's a big one.
jim
I'm relatively new to Texas (just about two years now) and like many recent immigrants I moved here for the economic climate. I'm a recent college grad and got a decent salary, with cost of living being significantly lower than New England.
So far, I'm rather indifferent to Perry (though his social conservativism disturbs me) but I like his "get of the way" attitude (I understand that's exactly what you don't like). Good information about Texas but my (relatively minor) struggles with asthma I do not tie to air quality issues but to genetics.
I've never understood the knock on "low-wage" jobs. They're better than no jobs and normally the people who knock them think they themselves are too good to grab a mop and bucket. There is no doubt that Texas has withstood the recession better than most and that is a powerful message with ever increasing debt and declining GDP growth.
Again, so far I'm indifferent to Perry and there is some good information in here but to quote the Clinton campagin, "It's the economy, stupid!" so he's got a decent shot.
Good post and thanks for the info.

Krugman!
The though of Perry for president really scares me. We think we had it bad with Bush? He is the reason that we are in the position we're in. I cannot imagine how much worst it would get with Perry!
Hey Kt.
I wrote a hub dedicated to you and this thing with TR. Oops .. I think you've read it. sorry!
jim
KT - Great hub. Don't bother with AR. He is one of those...how do I say it...really bad human beings, has a serious stain on his soul. He isn't worth the effort.
I hate to say it, Perry is the devil, but he is the smoothest politician I have seen since Clinton. He is SO transparent that it is shocking to watch people buy into it. We are in a very shameful time in our nation's history. A simple read through people like AR's comments will shed light on just how shameful we have allowed ourselves to become.
Hey guys,
Just dropped by to make sure one of my conservative whacks didn't come in here and get stupid.. Beta, is it still burning up there or did you guys get a break? KT, it's hot there too huh? Hey, nice place you have here KT. A place where a conservative can come in and put his feet up. I got Beta here to cover me in the event one of yall's butt heads try to whack me. (just kidding)
jim
You Go Girl! Great Hub and great to know there are Texans who don't follow someone like Perry! I was being to worry you all had been repalced by pods while I was away.
Sorry for the typos in my previous post! My brain needed coffee.
i hear perry's approval ratings in texas are around 30%. evidently, he thinks being a bad governor will make him a good president. if i were allowed to vote in the republican primary (in PA, one must be registered republican to vote republican in the primary) , i'd pick mitt.
I am just wondering what will happen when the Republicans he goes up against bring up his past as a Democrat? That will be worth watching!
Perry has been groomed By Karl Rove just as Bush was and we have known since before the last election he would try to run in 2012, so it really is not a surprise, and since Rove will again be calling the shots we will get to relive the Bush years once again if Perry wins… Yiippeeee
Rove just admonished Perry for accusing Bernacky of treasonous behavior.
Perry wants the U.S. Border Patrol to use Drones on illegals.
America is in for "The Top Tier of The GOP" trying to top each other, in outrageous statements in order to stir up the ignorant, the hate-filled bigots and all the fearful unemployed sheep in America and voting for even more American self-destruction.
These people don't care about America, they are all willing surrogates for the the super-rich and powerful interests in this country and abroad.
People have forgotten about (or never even knew any) history. It is beyond belief how tragic this all is. It seems middle class America has to learn and pay for things the hard way yet again.
I find it strange! people can say anything they want on Hubpages about our President and other public officials from all parties and no demands of verification of data or stats from Hubpages.
Who reviews this stuff anyway? It seems to be a major secret.
Actually after spending some time reading the Hubs under “Presidents of the United States". I would get the idea Hub Pages has its fair share of Right Wing Extremist, Skin Heads, Neo Nazi's, Hate Mongers, Religious Zealots and people who must spend a fortune laundering those white sheets.
Judging from the dates of some of them, I could easily say the HUBPAGES EDITORIAL TEAM seems to have closed their eyes to this…
OR it could just means that people that did not like the content or disagreed sent a reply per comment section, E-Mail or did not bother to read further.
Pushing the flag button every time I don't like what someone’s views are would mean half the Hubs about Politics on this site would need a rewrite. Save the Button for the real crap and Spam!
And KT, That someone would feel so outraged at your critique of Governor Rick "Goodhair" Perry they had to run and tell the teacher makes me think you have hit some nerves… Way to go!
1. Political Hubs are not for sissies. But no need to be rude or a Tattletale.
And while I am on a role here…to the person who flagged my Hub about my Dog Flora, for being too personal (what that means no one knows). May you get fleas and here is hoping the next male dog that walks by you thinks you’re a tree!
KT, I do not know what is true or false. But the news I have been hearing is that Karl Rove and the Bush people do not like Perry.
Rove may be playing it coy because he's a Fox Bloviator who want's to appear objective.

now perry has come out and said he doesn't believe man-made CO2 is behind global warming. i've lost any respect i had for him. he says scientists will say anything for grant money. i know of no reputable scientists who refute global warming. some scientists will say anything for oil money. sounds like if perry is president, we will go back to the bush policies where government scientists were afraid to speak facts if they would upset the president.
thanks for re-writing and keeping this going.
Wiz, I've heard rumors that Perry is a closet gay. I could care less except that, if I recall correctly, he's been a vocal opponent of gay rights issues.
What!? Hypocrisy about closeted-gays in the GOP—I'm shocked, Ralph!
I have a problem with any guy ( or gay) who carries a lazer-sighted handgun on his belt during his morning run so he can shoot coyotes. Macho, mean and aggressively reckless . . . it must be true: "Bush on steroids" and maybe overcompensating for his repressed attraction to his own gender. Who knows—or cares—as long as he doesn't determine yet more of America's destruction the way W did.
IMHO, it would be a mistake to un-publish this hub. What rule did they say it violates??? I wonder who flagged it? I'm not a big fan of the "hub-hopping" program. The flaggers should have to identify themselves and the reasons for flagging.
Perry and Bachmann are going to make more and more outrageous statements to fire up their base. If they get the nomination (which looks doubtful at this point), then they will pivot to more middle-of-the-road comments to sound more presidential and try to get the moderate voter.
They want the food fights now to get more media attention.
Hi KT;
Click on “My Account”
Then “Activity”
Then “Hubs You Follow”
And check your “Hub Follow Settings”
It also shows you the list of the ones you do follow.
P.S.
Yea someone actually flagged my “MY Beagle Hub” Even though there are dozens just like it on here. I wound up just deleting it.
Hi KT i enjoyed your article and think your assessment of Perry is correct. It would be a disaster if he were the nominee. Another 'W' except dumber. His grades in college are atrocious. Good job KT, thanks, Peter
Just an added comment from the peanut gallery. I can not understand why anyone would have complained about your original article. I did check too, and your facts were correct. I have had to remove a couple of my articles as being "duplicates", but when i did multiple searches on hub pages, i could find nothing even close to mine. So i just deleted them. There is no-one to argue or discuss the point with. We are victims of a true dictatorship. LOL.
The other odd thing i am finding is that who ever does the censoring on hub pages is quite obvious in why they are acting on certain articles: The videos that i attach that show the evils of children being brainwashed and emotionally abused by their religious teachers, ALWAYS get flagged as "URL not working", but when i click on the videos they work just fine. Also, my hub entitled "Rape and its Emotional Scars" was deemed inappropriate and they simply removed all advertising from it. This article was what women go through emotionally after this tragic abuse to them. So, there is little or no logic behind the censoring done on this site, other than the personal objections of the one doing the reading/censuring. I am so glad you kept this one on, as it is important for people to know the truths about who is running for president. Today on the news Mr. Perry's 7 proposed constitutional changes were made public, that he says he will have done if he is elected. What a scary little man he truly is. Certainly NOT in favor of the general welfare of the American people. Keep up the good work.
I have been embarrassed by the rise and tenure of Rick Perry ever since he's been in office. He's arrogant, hypocritical, and frankly has added to the image woes of Texas.
I can't for the life of me understand why he's been the governor of our state for so long. You've outlined several statistics that rank Texas as a bottom feeder in education, health, and economic realities. I had been mulling my own hub to raise these concerns, but you've done a much better job. Thank you for sharing.
The more I read about Perry the more it looks like we could look forward to Kinder, Küche, Kirche and History may repeat itself!
any doctor worth their salt will answer your concerns fully.
I wish you and your sister the best of luck KT. My mother had brain surgery for an aneurysm in 2004. She developed hydrocephalus a couple of months after the surgery. The surgery itself was successful but 25% of patients develop hydrocephalus. No one told us that when the initial surgery ocurred. She is doing well now but had to have a shunt put in her head to drain the fluid. She will always have the shunt in her head. Just keep an eye out for that. Best wished KT.
KT family comes first, you did the right thing and I'm thinking and praying for you and your sister.
Peter
KT, take care of yourself and wishing your sister a fast recovery.
My heartfelt prayers for your Sister. Your hub pages family will be here supporting you when you return.
KT,
i am sure I can spaek for everyone when I say we will hold you and your sister in our thought and in our hearts.
very very well said, am proud to see such a young person doing its research, applying common sense when it comes to very independent political view, there's still many ignorant people out there whom will vote for a candidate base on presence and financial power, sponsorship from those whom wants middle class still be middle class for ever and to keep the poor , poorest ... another texan whom will protect oil, weapons manufacturing and pharmaceutical co.s from allowing us the middle working class the enjoyment of a good health and education programs, to keep us at war for ever, cynical people that will represent this guy perry ...not even mentioning the racial and religious issues nevertheless, he will change the constitution and violate the founding father advocacy to separate religion from government .... be ready for a Christian sharia law's in texas soon if he wins ! ...o mighty universe save us from this fanatics please !!!
Hi, KT, thanks for allowing me to join your team. Perry is a clown as we get to see more and more of the 'so called' Texas economic miracle. He speaks of self reliance, but the only thing that you can only rely on is his lining of his pockets at the expense of the hardworking tax payers of the state. He is to be counted out as he can not articulate his nonsense and consistently stumbles over his own tongue. You can put a fork in him, hes done! Great article and we have similar aspirations, come visit sometime. Best Regards CRed2

Perry would be a disaster. Great job!
