Kardashians?

I have a confession to make. I just don't get the whole Kardashian thing. WHY are they so famous? I had thought they would have their 15 minutes of fame and (hopefully) go away. The news that one of them was getting married, actually Made the news. And now it's on every news and entertainment show about a divorce. They treated them and their wedding like England treated Prince Williams wedding. Again, WHY? I feel like I'm missing something here.

I know their father was one of O.J.'s lawyers. I also know their step dad is a former Olympian. But how does that make them newsworthy? Is it just because they are rich? Personally, I don't know anyone that watches their reality show. But the way the media treats them, they are considered American Royalty (OMG!). We have three sons, ranging in age from 16 to 30. None of them are interested in them. I wonder who their audience is? I've heard they have a huge Twitter following.

Are today's movie stars really so boring that people are just looking for anyone to be interested in? Oh! Maybe I just stumbled upon something. Maybe the Real celebrities have learned to lay low, so the paparazzi will leave them alone more often and chase after easier prey. Well, I guess they can't be called prey if they invite or - in the beginning, even pay the media to advertise for them. Didn't the one that just got married actually make money on the wedding? Is she the most famous of the bunch?

Did it all start with a sex tape? I guess like Paris Hilton. But she doesn't even seem to get as much press as these people. Why are these "released" sex tapes considered any different from regular porn? It's pretty common to be able to watch other people having sex. So what makes these people any different? Are the tapes supposed to be accidentally released?

Now the "news" that the ones that just got married - and made such a huge production out of it, are getting a divorce. So was the whole thing just for publicity? I would be mortified to admit that I was just That Stupid. I did go through a divorce when I was in my early twenties, and I was embarrassed to admit that I had made such a huge life altering mistake. I tried to make the marriage work. Do these people even understand the concept of marriage? The only thing I can come up with is that it was just all to make money. Well, I guess I don't blame them. We all want to make money.

I just still don't understand why the public is so interested in them. Does one of them have a talent that I haven't heard of? Maybe someone is a great actor, or singer? Writer or novelist? I guess I'm just getting irritated with it, because it does take up news time, that they could be using to talk about real news. Today's local news at noon show featured information about it - twice. Today they didn't even mention the Occupy Political Movements going on across America.

Oh! Hold on. Breaking news. I just heard that the husband, Chris, didn't even know that the wife, Kim, filed for the divorce until he heard about it in the media. Did they even live together? So what did he do that was so awful that she is already filing for divorce? I would think that maybe I'm just getting old and out of touch with today's generation, but as I said, my sons don't even seem to know as much about it as I inadvertently do.

Here's a bit of real news I saw today that I thought was interesting, and can't help but share. On CNN, they showed the Occupy Movement in Seattle. They actually showed middle class, educated people that are showing up to protest. Usually they just try to show the worst dressed and most inarticulate ones, that have trouble trying to explain why they are there.

Maybe we should try to get someone in the Kardashian family to join the movement. (Sorry...I couldn't help myself)
