Feeling Groovy
56Live and Let Live!
What do You Believe In?
I was just remembering a song from when I was little. Something like, "Slow down, you move to fast...something, something, - Feeling Groovy."
The other day it was my sons 20th birthday. I was rushing around trying to get a lot of things done in one day, by a certain time, because now days, his birthday always ends with him going out with his friends.
In my rush, I was wearing Flip Flops. (my kids don't like for me to call them thongs) I'm so graceful that I tripped. The sudden tearing pain in my foot was so unusual, that I wasn't sure if I should fall down and howl or try to act like nothing happened.
Since I was in a Department store, I tried to be discreet and just scream in my head. Thank God, I was almost finished shopping and ready to go home. The pain was bearable as long as I walked on the outside of my foot.
I couldn't tell what kind of injury it was, I never felt anything quite like it before. My husband said I probably strained a ligament or tendon or something. The next night, I got up in the middle of the night, and tripped over our Golden Retriever, Maggie. She wasn't sleeping in her bed.
The already injured foot actually screamed in pain. Okay, that may have been me screaming, but the pain was really intense! I had to put my hand out to keep from falling face first into the door jamb. So I have a nice wrenched shoulder to go with the foot pain.
I am so busy lately, so much to do, I was really getting angry about this (and feeling sorry for myself - I'm no Bret Michaels). I don't have time to slow down. People depend on me. So I did some research on the net about my symptoms, it sounds like I have Hallux Ridgidus. The common name for it is...embarrassing. It's called "Turf Toe." Usually it's a football injury. Last year I tore my MCL - no not my ACL, jumping over Maggie. Also usually a football injury. Now, I admit, I love football - on TV. But I haven't played a football game in 25 years.
But this evening it occurred to me. Maybe God is trying to slow me down a little bit. Like a lot of people now days, I don't consider myself of one particular Religion, but I've given birth to three children. I know the miracle of childbirth, so I KNOW there is a God. For as long as I can remember, I've always felt a connection to Him. Like we have an understanding and relationship that can't be defined by one specific Religion. I guess I'm what you call Spiritual. Sometimes I see flowers, or beautiful clouds, or hear my children laughing and I get a thrill up my spine. At these times, I call "Moments of Awareness" I always stop and say a prayer of Thanks to God.
I heard something on the news the other day about how many people now just say they are spiritual - not religious. It seems to me that people are sometimes afraid to talk about Religion because they feel unsure about so much of it.
My belief is simple. I trust in God, and believe that if I live my life doing Good, treating other people like I want to be treated, then I've lived a good life. It just comes natural to me. It Feels natural. And one of my biggest things, is to try not to judge other people. To let people live life the way that feels comfortable to them. As long as they don't hurt other people.
So many people want to try to squeeze other people into their own little slots, and they get mad at them if they don't quite fit. It drives my in-laws NUTS, that we don't live our lives Exactly as they do. We haven't raised our kids Exactly as they would have. But you know what, we are all very Happy and have turned out some pretty amazing kids.
So, I say "Live and Let Live." And slow down to take the time to appreciate this earth, this life, that God has been so kind to give us. And now, tonight, writing this Hub, even though I'm still in a lot of pain - I'm Feeling Groovy - that I could share this with you!
I don't know if it will exactly Help anyone, but if it put a smile on your face, or gives you something different to ponder, maybe I've done my job.
Blessed Be and Drive Safely,
KT

The studio where the show was filmed was walking distance from my high school. So, we had a good chance to get tickets for shows. Also got to see Eric Burdon and the Animals. It was interesting times.....
Best to you and your family.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.
Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.
I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.
I got to meet Simon and Garfunkel on a TV show in L. A. when I was in high school just as this song was released. The show, as I recall, was called Shiverie!
Life was indeed groovy. Thanks for the reminder.
