The 3 Credit Bureaus
Much of our lives are ruled by 3 Credit Bureaus. And they SUCK! They can literally ruin you life. They can report erroneous information and not even be held accountable for it. I just looked at reports from the three of them, and they don't even report the same information on the same accounts. For One account, each of them show different dates, different balance information, and different payment history. Out of the three, not one of them is completely accurate.
My question is: What good are they? And why aren't they regulated by anyone? The information they give can affect major things in our lives, such as if we get a good job or not. How much interest we pay on a car loan and even if we get approved for a home loan.
If one of them shows something bad, then every credit card we have, every creditor we have can increase our interest rates and therefor our payments on everything. Well, there goes your budget.
People worry a lot about Identity Theft. there are even all kinds of companies out there now taking advantage of that. I think what we should really be worried about is somehow holding the Big 3 - the almighty Credit Bureaus - ACCOUNTABLE. They are Trans Union 866-264-4878. - , Equifax- 800-685-1111 and Experian1 888 397 3742 . These are the phone numbers I got from Ask.com, however, they probably change them on a regular basis. Honestly, I would much rather deal with the IRS than the credit bureaus - and I have been on the losing side of an audit. In my experience, the IRS was much nicer and showed a lot more consideration.
Once before I had trouble with credit reports. I went through hell, filling out forms and sending letters to each of the three different bureaus, with copies of back up documents to prove my case. When the result from those tedious hours and days worth of work were not right. I paid a company thousands of dollars to help me. they promised they could get the false information removed. And they actually did get some of it removed - for 90 days. Then most of it re-appeared. And it was FALSE!
To make it worse, the powers that be at the big 3 - simply appear not to care. They can ruin your life and they don't care. To me, it felt like they get off on it. They will not even simply tell you of any easier ways to deal with it. They send you through as many rabbit holes as they can find.
At the very least, you would think they would be responsible for slander, or putting out false information. I am actually more mad at the bureaus than I am at the people that steal your identity. At least they know they are in the wrong and doing a bad thing, The Many people that I've had to deal with at the Bureaus, act irritable and holier-than-thou.
I don't understand why it is not talked about more often. I really don't understand why there are not laws in place that protect the citizens and give them some kind of rights. Some way of fighting back, because, believe me, if there is erroneous information on your credit report, you're in one of the biggest fights of your life. It can definitely change the quality of your life - for years.
If i'm missing something, and someone out there does know of a good way to fix problems like this, please share with the rest of us. UNLESS you're one of those predatory companies that say you can help people, only to charge them thousands of dollars for little if no real results.
On the positive side, wait, I can't think of one.
JK! We're alive, there is sunshine and love and laughter in the world. I use to love the lyrics to the song that said "I get knocked down, but I get up again." Hell yeah! That's a moto to live by.
Drive Safely,
KT

LOL. I guess not, but it sure rings true regardless. I have a crazy idea that I would love to see happen. Let's all start billing them. When they falsely report, the big three or any other company, and we have to waste our time to prove we paid them, we should bill them for accounting and secretarial time. All of us. I think it's happened to most of us. We don't work for them. Why should they be allowed to not only lie, but hold our precious time hostage? Love the hub!

I like your style. You threw up their numbers...sweet! I agree it's crazy the amount of power they have. I wonder, has anyone ever tried to sue them? There have to be creative lawyers out there looking for juicy cases. How many have tried to sue the companies that report false information to the big three? Really, it's like one has to keep every receipt one ever has or one can't prove one paid it nine years later when someone hits the wrong computer key somewhere and now it says one didn't. Your right, this isn't talked about enough. Thank you.
